Debate Match Organized by ABFSU-FAC in APEBC Dormitory in Mae Sot

Debaters of Our Society (DOS) program of All Burma Federation of Student Unions (Foreign Affairs Committee) organized a final debate match in Assistance Program of Education for Burmese Children (APEBC) dormitory today evening.
DOS has given the debate training with 24 students in this dormitory for three months and twice a week. And since one week ago, a debate tournament has been started with 7 debate teams, which three debaters belong to each team.
The topic to debate was “The students from developing countries should study in the universities of regional countries rather than in these of developed countries.” The two teams debated today were the final two teams which have beat all of other teams in the lower rounds.
The names of these two teams were “Never give up” and “Sky Blue”. “ Never give up” beat “Sky Blue” and got the first prize.
ABFSU-FAC said their objectives of running this debate program is just to provide the Burmese migrant students with the capacity of critical thinking, persuasive power, confidence and knowledge which are unavailable in the Burmese Educational system.
And they also said debate is important for people daily life as well as the Government level and debate culture was well known and familiar in Burma before the second military coup in 1962.
